  • The Kansas Department of Transportation released its list of 2013 and 2014 highway projects this week.
    The list includes heavy preservation projects, which include major road rehabilitation, substantial milling and overlays, pavement replacement and bridge replacements.
    The list also includes light preservation, which includes seals, light overlays and bridge repairs.
    Modernization projects include those that improve alignment, flatten hills, widen shoulders or improve intersections.
    Expansion projects include those that add lanes or interchanges to a roadway.
    In Ford County, a light preservation project is scheduled for 2013 on U.S. 50 from the Ford/Gray County line, east to 0.35 miles west of the U.S. 50/U.S. 400 junction.
    The project covers 6.49 miles and the estimated cost is $39,400.
    A bridge replacement is scheduled for 2012 on K-94, west fork Rattlesnake Creek, 2.11 miles south of U.S. 54.
    The estimated cost of the bridge replacement is $585,300.
    According to information provided by the Kansas Department of Transportation, the majority of 2012 light preservation projects have yet to be selected and approved.
    A total of 225 highway projects and 209 bridge and interchange projects were included in the list released this week.
    The statewide total lists 1,614 miles of work at a total cost of $1.1 billion.
