The Dodge City Soroptimist club announced they're accepting applications for the Women's Opportunity Award, a program that assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families.
The program provides resources for improving education, skills and employment prospects. Funds from the program may be used to offset any costs associated with high education, including books, childcare and transportation.
The opportunity awards are one of several programs sponsored by Soroptimist in furtherance of their mission: women at their best working to help other women to be their best.
Nationwide, Soroptimist clubs disbursed more than $2.2 in 2011, benefiting over 7,600 women.
"Many recipients of the opportunity awards have overcome enormous obstacles, including poverty, domestic violence and drug and alcohol abuse and continue to pursue higher education," said Jessica Slattery, spokesperson for the local club.
Women interested in applying for assistance may apply online at www.soroptimist.org.
