Martin Clayton, 87, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Minneola Long Term Care Unit.
He was born April 6, 1925 at Gatewood, Missouri to parents John Arthur and Myrtle Cleo (Brown) Clayton.
He was a longtime Mullinville resident. Clayton was a farmer and had worked at the Mullinville Equity Exchange for many years. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy. He was a member of Mullinville United Methodist Church. He had served as Fire Chief of the Mullinville City and Kiowa County Fire Depts. He had also served on the Hillcrest Cemetery and the Equity Exchange Boards.
On July 23, 1947 he married Betty Hensley at Mullinville.
Survivors are his wife, Betty; son, Ron Clayton and wife Susan; daughter, Marla Zimmerman and husband Brad all of Mullinville; three brothers: John, Jr. of Poplar Bluff, Mo., David of Doniphan, Mo., and Joe of Sterling; five grandchildren: Lance Zimmerman of Omaha, Neb., Loren Zimmerman of Greensburg, Lynette Zimmerman and Jonathan Clayton of Philadelphia, Penn., and Jessica Clayton of Austin, Texas.; and six great grandchildren.
There will be a Private Family Graveside Thursday at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville with Mark Fillmore officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mullinville United Methodist Church.
