  • Kansans will find out tonight if someone in the Sunflower State has been lucky enough to match all numbers in the Powerball drawing, capturing a jackpot estimated at half a billion dollars, the largest in Powerball history!
Powerball sales in Kansas totaled more than $1.1 million dollars in a single day yesterday, for a total of nearly $1.8 million since Sunday.
“We’re going to have another huge day today, with sales continuing right up until the cut-off time of 8:59 p.m. tonight,” said Kansas Lottery Deputy Executive Director Neysa Thomas.
The Powerball drawing is being conducted in Tallahassee, Florida, and will occur at 9:59 tonight Kansas time.
Yesterday, the jackpot was raised from $425 million to $500 million, based on very strong sales in the 44 lottery jurisdictions that offer Powerball.  The cash lump sum payment on the jackpot would be an estimated $327 million.
If a Kansas ticket were the single winning ticket in tonight’s drawing, and the ticket holder chose the cash lump sum, the winner would receive a check for approximately $229 million, after paying approximately $16 million in state taxes (5 percent) and $82 million in federal taxes (25 percent).
The Kansas Lottery reminds players that the jackpot isn’t the only prize up for grabs in tonight’s Powerball drawing. In addition to the record jackpot prize, hundreds of thousands of players will win secondary prizes at cash levels ranging from $4 to $1 million ($12 to $2 million if the winning player has purchased the Power Play option.)
