Dodge City finishes seventh in tournament

The Dodge City Conquistadors salvaged some good news Saturday afternoon at the Coffeyville Elite 8 tournament by beating Seminole State (Okla.) 71-58 in the seventh place game at Nellis Hall.

The Conqs shot 28-of-55 from the field (50.9 percent), including 14-of 25 in the second half. Victor Adams led Dodge City (6-5) in scoring for the fourth straight game with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. A.J. Downing, Delvon Rencher and Jacoby Green all added 10 points apiece in the victory.

Seminole State also had four players to score in double figures: Reed Johnson with 13, Kilven Samuel and Tevin Bellinger with 12 apiece and Michael Bowlers had 10. Seminole State shot 13-of-34 after intermission.

Dodge City's final two contests before the Holiday break will be at the Civic Center against Labette on Dec. 8 and Missouri State-West Plains on Dec. 15.

Lady Conqs lose in Louisiana

EUNICE, La. – The Dodge City Conquistadors were outscored by 16 in the second half Saturday afternoon in an 86-72 loss to LSU-Eunice.

The Lady Conqs were tied with the hosts at 42-42 at halftime, but couldn't keep up with the Lady Bengals offense in the second half. Dodge City was 7-of-9 from three-point range in the first half and had a 15-point lead with five minutes left before intermission, but cooled off in the second half while Eunice

"There was a key point in the second half when it was 68-62 and we had four straight possessions where we didn't execute offensive on four straight plays and they came back down and hit four three-point baskets," said Dodge City head coach Lucas McDonald. "They were 7-of-13 from the 3-point range and just kept shooting well."

Kelli Tolar led Dodge City (5-6) in scoring with 22 points, while Jameeshia Armstrong added 18 and Nicole Salazar 12 in the loss.

Dodge City will close out the first half of the season this weekend with two games in the Seward County Invitational. The Lady Conqs will play Arkansas Baptist at 2 p.m. Friday, followed by a matchup against Northeastern Colorado on Saturday.
