  • Earlier this week the Globe asked our Facebook fans to answer the following question; "What is your favorite Christmas song and why?" Here are the answers we received.
Bob Bergmann: "'I'll Be Home for Christmas' because of all the people that cannot be home. Mainly our military forces. The song makes me feel that these people are home, but in spirit only. Also, 'White Christmas!!!'"
Mark A. Vierthaler: "'Don't Shoot Me Santa' by The Killers."
Summer Snodgrass Bates: "'I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas...'"
Tony Bruckner: "Ones that play in December and not August."
Rebeca Chavez: "'Feliz Navidad.' My family sings this song all the time. I love it when it comes on the radio when I'm in my car driving around running errands."
Dawn Thompson Kazar: "'All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth'. I knocked my two front teeth out when I was two-years-old (back then you couldn't have them put them back in) and they didn't come back in until I was about seven. I was made fun of a lot at first, so I played that song over and over...I still know all the words by heart."
    Nancy Luna: "'Sliver Bells!'"
Jim Johnson: "'Christmas Time's a'comin' Why? Bill Monroe. 'nuff said."
David Schlichting: "'Still, Still, Still.' Old Austrian song. Performed for many years by the choir before Midnight Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral. One of those precious memories of coming home to spend Christmas with my parents-- and something I miss very much."
Kyle Jeffrey Hager: "It's a toss up between 'Silent Night' and 'The Christmas Song.' I like the fact that 'The Christmas Song' so easily conjures a vision of a snowy winter, but was written in the middle of a heat wave. According to composer Mel Torme, the song was written in an effort to 'stay cool by thinking cool.'"
Frank Shiflet: "'White Christmas' is the best. Santa Clause can't land very easily on dirt :) It's a very beautiful song; it sets the tone for Christmas."
Phil Schaffer: "'Silent Night' because when I was in the SEA, the Bob Hope USO show closed with all of us singing it and thinking how far away was the 'world'."
    Laura Koontz: "'Silver Bells.'"
Yovana Rodriguez-Drake: "'Jingle Bell Rock.' It's just a fun upbeat song that always puts me in a good festive mood."
Nancy Mata Jaquez: "'Silent Night' because it talks about the true meaning of Christmas- Christ's birth."
Debbie Smith: "'Silent Night.' It tells the reason for the season, Christ's birth!!!"
Edna Morton Shaffer: "Definitely 'Silent Night' because Christmas isn't about rushing and buying or all this commercialism we've seen. It's about Jesus, and if it wasn't for his birth we would not have the advantage to be forgiven for our sins."
Page 2 of 2 - Carol Knight Barnes: "'O Holy Night.' This song puts this holiday in perspective."
Cindy Roberts Fry: "'I'll be Home for Christmas.' Going home to Oklahoma to see my mom before she passed away!"
