  • If you're looking for something new and fun to do with your family this holiday season consider taking a short drive up to Cedar Bluff State Park for their Holiday in Lights event, taking place Dec. 20 through 23.
Each day starting at sundown, and lasting until 10 p.m. the park will be open for guests to enjoy an array of holiday lights and displays.
"We have four different loops throughout the campground and the cabin area decorated," Anita Schneider, administrative specialist for the park said. "In all there's about five or six miles of lights set up."
Guests have the option of driving themselves through the displays or taking a ride on a hayrack. Admission is just $1 per person, and children under 5 are free, so the whole family can come out and enjoy this event without spending a fortune.
After viewing all the lights everyone is invited to stop by the Broken Spur Campground to warm up by the fire and enjoy a free cup of hot chocolate. There will also be s'more kits available for purchase.
No holiday event would be complete without Santa, who will be on hand each night to talk to children and hear what they want for Christmas this year.
On Dec. 20 through 22 the Broken Spur shelter will offer entertainment from about 7 to 8 p.m. each night. On Dec. 20, the High Plains Barbershop Quartet, on Dec. 21, Tina Glendy and Patty Curlile and on Dec. 22 the Carl Fabrizius family will perform. All of these groups will be showcasing their talents for guests to enjoy at no extra cost.
"The Holiday in Lights event is something we used to do here in the past, but it just wasn't in the budget the last few years," Schneider said. "But we brought it back this year and are expecting it to be bigger than ever."
Schneider also added that the last year they held this event about 4,000 people visited the park. They're hoping that even more come this year.
"In the past we've had this event earlier in the month, but we decided to move it closer to Christmas this year, so hopefully more families can enjoy it together," Schneider said. "This is really a great thing for the whole family to do together."
Cedar Bluff State Park is located at 32001 147 Highway, Ellis, Kansas. For more information about Holiday in Lights, call (785) 726-3212.
