Press helps Manhattan score 22 points off Lady Demon turnovers.
The Dodge City Lady Demons didn't protect the ball against the Manhattan Lady Indians and it ended up costing the visitors in a 53-38 setback at MHS Gymnasium.
Dodge City committed 24 turnovers in the game which the Lady Indians took advantage for 22 points.
Chandra Sain led Dodge City (1-1) in scoring with 11 and Ciera Lampe added 10 in the loss. Elayn Spilker led Manhattan (2-0) with 18 points and Darby Price recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Indians dominated Dodge City over the first five minutes to build a six-point lead, but the Lady Demons fought back and scored 12 of the last 14 points to take the lead after one quarter.
Dodge City extended the lead to 15-8 before the Lady Indians used their press to regain control of the contest; scoring 14 of the final 16 points to lead 24-17 at intermission.
Manhattan scored 12 points off 14 Dodge City turnovers and also grabbed 15 offensive rebounds. Sain scored eight points to lead the Lady Demons with no other player with more than three. Spilker and Price scored eight apiece to lead the Lady Indians.
The Lady Demons used a press to start the second half and cut the margin to three midway through the third quarter before Manhattan clamped down on defense and scored the last eight points to lead 38-27 with one stanza remaining.
Dodge City never got closer than nine points the rest of the game.
