Dodge City loses to Arkansas Baptist, beat Northeastern Colorado in last game before holiday break
The Dodge City Lady Conquistadors closed out their play before the holiday break last weekend with a split of two games in the Seward County Pizza Hut Classic.
The Lady Conqs (6-7) beat Northeastern Colorado in a 68-50 victory on Saturday one day after losing to Arkansas Baptist 63-40 in Friday afternoon action.
Dodge City shot only 10 percent (3-of-30) and committed 16 turnovers in the first half of Friday's game against Arkansas Baptist. The Lady Conqs trailed 25-10 at halftime. Kelly Tolar led the Lady Conqs in scoring with 11 points, while Samantha Herrera added eight in the loss.
"We just didn't execute," said Dodge City head coach Lucas McDonald. "It's hard to win basketball games when we do all that we did in the first half."
The game against Northeastern Colorado was better as the Lady Conqs were 17-of-29 (59 percent) from the floor for a 43-30 halftime lead. Dodge City recorded only nine turnovers in the game.
"We came out and executed better both defensively and offensively and we took care of the ball," McDonald said. "We did the little things we needed to be successful."
Katren Cramer led Dodge City with 19 points, while Nicole Salazar added 15 and Herrera 10 in the victory.
Dodge City doesn't play again until Jan. 2 when they travel to Goodland for a game against Northwest Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
