Shirley A. (Tinley) Doan, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at her home in Dodge City.
She was born August 31, 1932 at St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of John and Verneda (Klebenstein) Tinley. She graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in 1950 and the Platt Business College in St. Joseph. On May 31, 1954 she married George E. “Bud” Doan in St. Joseph and came to Dodge City in 1967 when her husband transferred here with the USDA. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2012. She was co-owner and operator of Doan Secretarial Service, Skateland Fun Center, Fun Center 24 Bowling Lanes, The Snack Shack and Lazer Shootout. She retired in 1997.
She loved her family, bowling, dancing, swimming and baseball as a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella, Senior Friends and St. Patrick’s Church in St. Joseph.
Survivors include her son, George “Butch” Doan, Dodge City; a sister, Mary Gann, St. Joseph; four grandchildren, Cheyenne Nichols and husband Chad, William “Willy” Doan, George “Buddy” Doan, II and wife Bobbie and Matthew Doan; one step grandson, David Wyman; seven-great grandchildren, Taylor, Tyrese, Chad, II, Alyssa, Avonte, Maya and Clarence; and three nieces, Cathy, Pam and Cindy.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a Remembrance Service at a later date for family and friends. Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City is in charge of arrangements.
