  • The City Commission is weighing four options for extending Comanche Street from 14th Avenue to Mat Down Road and from there to U.S. 50.
"No formal decisions were made at the meeting, because it was just a work session," Nannette Pogue, city clerk said of last week's meeting. "It was just a chance for the commissioners to discuss the options with the engineer, BHC Rhodes, once again."
The City has been discussing this expansion for a while now according to Pogue, and hopefully a decision can be made soon.
Four options are available for expanding Comanche. A two-lane road can be built, a three-lane road can be built, a four-lane road can be built or a two-lane road can be built now, with plans to add two more lanes at a later date.
Based on discussions at the work session, commissioners seem to be leaning towards building a four-lane road now, or building a two-lane road now, with plans to expand in the future.
If a four-lane road is constructed it will cost over $7 million dollars. The second option will save some money, with the total estimate being just under $6 million dollars. Both estimates are only for road construction notes Pogue, land acquisition and other costs have not been estimated.
Pogue said she is not sure exactly when the commissioners will make a decision about the proposed project, but expects that it will be in the near future.
