  • After mild temperatures for most of the month, Dodge City finally saw some snowfall earlier this week, and may see more soon. Right now forecasts are calling for a white Christmas, though just how white is still uncertain. "We have some models that are showing Dodge getting up to four inches of snow, and others that say just half an inch," Kelly Sugden, meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Dodge City said in an interview Friday morning. "As we get closer to Christmas, we'll be able to know more exactly how much snow we will get, but right now it's still too far away." According to a recent press release from AccuWeather.com, forecasters will look at several prediction models when making a forecast. "Meteorologists look for consistency in the forecast models. They’re more confident when models give similar forecasts over time," the press release states. The good news is that Sugden has moderate confidence that Dodge will at least have some precipitation on the 25th. "We are, however, more confident that the winds won't be as strong with this storm," Sugden said. "Which should make a big difference." As for those traveling after the holidays, Sugden believes the storm will move out quickly, and shouldn't affect travel on the 26th. "It's hard to say exactly what's going to happen this far in advance," he reiterated, "but right now, it's pretty likely we'll at least get some snow."
