John William Jones was born Oct. 20, 1919 in Dodge City, and died Dec. 22, 2012 in Prescott, Ariz. He was born to Ansel Cedrick Jones and Cecil Mae (Root) Jones. He was raised in Dodge City and graduated with the class of 1939. He attended Dodge City Junior College.
Jones joined the Navy in 1943 serving three and a half years. Part of his flight training brought him to Prescott, Ariz. where he would later settle with his family.
Jones worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for forty years. He loved raising and training horses and dogs. He married Pat Sharpe Aug. 15, 1945 in Ovid, N.Y. Three children were born of this union in Dodge City. The couple ran the Baskin Robbins ice cream store in Prescott on Gurley Street for twenty three years.
Jones is survived by his wife, Pat; son, Don Jones of Fort Morgan, Colo.; daughters, Janet (Mike) Konkel of Kersey, Colo, and Becky (Don) Adams of Chino Valley, Ariz.; four granddaughters; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
Jones was preceded in death by his parents; all of his siblings; and one granddaughter.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Greencrest Memorial Gardens in Dodge City, with Rev. Dick Robbins officiating and military graveside rites by Howard Gotschall Post # 1714, V.F.W. There will be no visitation.
