Donald A. "Pete" Clair, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
He was born June 9, 1931 at Billings, Mont., the son of Adam and Francis Yockey Clair. He moved from Boulder, Colo. to Dodge City in the late 50's with Lloyd Coake to start Coake Feed Yard. He was a custom cattle feeder and owned Pete's Feed Yard. He was baptized Catholic and rededicated his life three years ago to the Cowboy Church.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
For many years he was a Board Member of the Ford County Fair Association. He was also a member of the Quarter Horse Association, National Cutting Horse Association, the National Reining Horse Association and the American Hampshire Sheep Association.
In August of 1959, he married Rosie Perez at Raton, N.M. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Lloyd Clair, of the home; three daughters, Linda Anderson and husband Martin, Cleveland, Okla., Debbi Conrardy and husband Stan, Dodge City, and Caroline Petty and husband Tim, Bucklin; two brothers, Robert Clair, Longmont, Colo. and Calvin Clair, Berthoud, Colo.; a sister, Catherine Lewis, Arvada, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Brad Anderson, Emmy Downey, Bethany Anderson, Brandy Petty, Danielle Petty, Colt Petty, Brittni Conrardy and Cheyenne Conrardy; and seven great-grandchildren, Timeri Petty-Kiehl, Rafa Flores, Garrett Anderson, Caitlyn Anderson, Rylee Anderson, Tycee Downey and Ryder Downey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Henry "Hank" Clair; and a sister, Betty Vallejos.
Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at the First Christian Church, Dodge City, with Cowboy Preacher, Rob Pierce, officiating. Friends may call from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in the Johnson Cemetery in rural Gray County with military honors.
The family suggests memorials to the Pete Clair Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
