  • Dodge City welcomes first baby of 2013

  • 2013 did not start with a busy rush at the Women's Center in Dodge City.
    One baby was born New Year's Day and another two were expected to arrive Wednesday.
    The first baby of the new year in Dodge City is Dominga Guico-Batz, who arrived at 2:48 p.m. Tuesday. She weighed eight pounds, two ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

    The first baby of the new year in Dodge City is Dominga Guico-Batz, who arrived at 2:48 p.m. Tuesday. She weighed eight pounds, two ounces and was 19.5 inches long.
    Her mother, Sebastiana Batz-Jiatax, characterized the labor as "slow," and both mother and daughter were resting happily Wednesday afternoon.
    The father, Mariano Guico Castro, wore a wide smile.
    Radio station Q-97 and Western Plains Medical Complex presented the baby with gifts from area businesses.
    Out West sent a diaper bag, a baby ring and a pair of pink Skidders, which are baby cowboy boots.
    Tractor Supply sent Cowboy Kickers booties.
    Gibson Pharmacy provided a burp rag, a pacifier, a teddy bear and gift wrap for the whole presentation.
    Enuseno Qmoda sent sweater gloves and a baby set.
    Village Square Mall provided a gift certificate.
    Cummings Carousel sent a hooded bath towel.
    Western Plains Medical Complex presented the baby with a Wal-Mart gift certificate.
    Richard Falcon, a representative of Q-97 said the radio station would give the baby "A lifetime of good music."
