An oilfield worker was injured Thursday night on a rig southwest of St. John.
An oil field worker was seriously injured, Thursday when a section of pipe fell on him at a rig southwest of St. John.
The call came in just before 10 p.m. for a crushing accident at the rig located near SE 30 Avenue and SE 30th Street, three miles west of the intersection of highways 50 and 281, and three miles south.
According to Stafford County Sheriff reports, Jose M Ledesma, 29, Dodge City was injured when a piece of pipe fell out of the pipe elevator and hit Ledesma. He was pinned under the pipe for a time.
“He was out from under the pipe by the time we arrived there,” said Tom Fisher, Stafford County Sheriff deputy. “From looking at it the pipe fell from about 100 feet up.”
Ledesma was transported by ambulance to Stafford County Hospital then airlifted to Via Christi on St. Francis, Wichita.
His condition is unknown at this time.
