The Dodge City High bowling teams started slow but gradually got their confidence up in their opening tournament of the season.
Although both teams finished fourth in the Western Athletic Conference Baker's Invitational, DCHS bowling head coach Tyson Clark said the teams competed well in the tournament.
The format saw each team bowl three games in a regular format to determine the seeding for the Baker's portion.
The Red Demons lost to Great Bend 3-0 in the first round, then lost 3-2 to Garden City in the third place match. Kaben Herbert rolled a 568 series (221 in the third game) to lead the Dodge City scores in the regular format. Other scores include Dillon Woods (498), Daniel Calvin (484), Jaden Fleener (479), Colt Woods (475) and Dalton Krayenhagan (438).
"In the bakers against Great Bend, we bowled very good games, but they are very solid and beat us," Clark said. "Against Garden City, we had five close games. All in all in the Baker's portion, we bowled solid and did as well as we could."
The Lady Demons lost in the first round to Garden City of the girls Baker's format 3-2; then lost 3-1 to Liberal in the third place match.
Amanda Simmons had a 514 series to lead the team in the regular series format, followed by Katelyn Tabor (470), Ashley Hughes (338), Andrea Enciso (342), Valerie Crone (284) and Samantha Reyes (274).
The Demons' next action will be Saturday morning in the Bishop Carroll Baker's Event at Wichita's West Acres Bowl.
