The Fowler Goldbugs took everything the Class 1-Division I defending state champion Ashland Bluejays threw at them Tuesday night in the first half before dominating the second half on the way to a 76-51 road victory in Southern Plains-Iroquois Activities Association action.
The Goldbugs remained unbeaten on the season at 8-0 (including a dominating performance last month over the Bluejays), but it was their toughest test so far this season.
Fowler had been known for starting the game strong, but the Bluejays (4-5) stayed with the Goldbugs throughout the stanza and only trailed 31-29 at halftime.
The Goldbugs grabbed control of the game in the second half as they outscored the Bluejays 25-10 in the third quarter and 20-12 in the fourth to cement the victory.
Taylin Bird scored 20 points (including five 3-point baskets) to lead the Goldbugs, while Ty Clark added 17, Tem Shetley 16 and Jett Reese 13.
Hodgeman Co. 69, Ingalls 42
JETMORE — The Longhorns outscored the Bulldogs 38-21 in the first half and never looked back in recording the home victory in SPIAA League action.
Hodgeman County (3-4) was 29-of-54 from the field in the game with four players scoring in double figures: Jared Borger (18), Austin Pfannenstiel (16), Brennan Harms (11) and William Fierro 10.
Zeke Cox led Ingalls (1-5) with 11 points.
Meade 68, SW Heights 42
MEADE — The Buffaloes outscored the Mustangs 18-5 in the opening quarter and increased the lead to 21 by halftime in remaining unbeaten after seven games with the Hi-Plains League victory.
Morgan Davis scored 22 points to lead the Buffaloes, while Jett Little added 18 and Morgan Friesen eight in the victory.
Ben Johnsrud (13) was the only player to score in double figures for Southwestern Heights (6-3).
Meade 51, Southwestern Heights 27
MEADE — The Lady Buffaloes gave up only 12 points in the first half on the way to leading by 19 at halftime and extended their margin to 42-16 by the end of the third quarter of the Hi-Plains League matchup.
Bailey Olvera scored 16 points to lead Meade (4-3) and Kinzie Friesen added 10 in the victory. Ivon Amparan scored nine points to lead Heights (6-3).
Ashland 60, Fowler 41
ASHLAND — The Lady Bluejays outscored Fowler 24-3 in the opening quarter and coasted to the win in the SPIAA league showdown.
Canaan Endicott scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds for Ashland (8-1), while Nichole Borgelt added 13 points and five boards in the victory.
Fowler fell to 3-5 on the season.
Cimarron 77, Larned 34
CIMARRON — The Lady Bluejays led 22-4 after the opening quarter and extended the lead to 33 by halftime in recording the home rout to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Ashtynn Burns scored 22 points to lead the Lady Bluejays, while Eva Koopman added 17 and Morgan Ediger 16 in the victory.
