  • A specialty show, called KaleidEscape, is coming to Dodge City Jan. 18 through 20 and truly does offer something for everyone. "I have big boys toys vendors, it's a women's thing vendors, gun vendors, home and garden vendors, fashion, kids and food," Kim Unruh, an event organizer, said. "And I'm still looking for more vendors to sign up too." Not only does Unruh have different categories of vendors, she has many subsections too. In the fashion category, she has mall fashion, prom and more. There are things for adults, teens and children too. As for the guns, Unruh said she is expecting at least 50 tables filled with different types of guns, as well as parts and supplies. "I came up with the idea for KaleidEscape as something else to offer guests who come to Dodge for the Tournament of Champions," Unruh said. "But also, to show local residents some really cool things we have to offer right here in Dodge and in surrounding areas." One vendor has a ceramics business in Garden City, where you can come in and paint ceramics. From the outside, it just looks like a coffee shop, but inside it's almost like an art gallery, Unruh said. She wouldn't have known about this place if it hadn’t been for this event. Because this is the first year for KaleidEscape, Unruh and the other event organizers; Plan Ahead Events, Rocking M Radio and KWCH aren't sure exactly how many people to expect, but she thinks that a lot of people are excited about it. "Everyone I've talked to seems to think it's a great idea, and wants to come out to it, so hopefully we'll have a really good turnout and it'll make the vendors want to keep coming back." Unruh said that she hopes to make this an annual event. In addition to all the vendors, there will be live entertainment, Miss Kitty will be on stage one afternoon, there will be cheerleading, dance and gymnastics performances, and more. Riddles jewelry will be raffling off $16,000 in jewelry and there will be thousands of dollars in other prizes throughout the weekend. "There are so many different things that will be going on throughout the weekend," Unruh said, "unique local vendors, fun prizes and great entertainment, there really will be something for everyone." KaleidEscape takes place Jan. 18 from 5-8 p.m., Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Jan. 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is free for the whole family to get in.
