  • A jury trial for a man accused of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer has been set for Jan. 30. 23-year-old Steven Eric Longdon is also accused of interfering with law enforcement and a DUI. According to district court records, if convicted, this will be Longdon's second DUI. The charges stem from a July 29 incident when Longdon was stopped at a DUI checkpoint in Dodge City. Court records report that Officer Lee Kolbeck of the Dodge City Police Department was standing on the running boards on Longdon's truck during the stop when he allegedly "pushed the gas pedal to the floor accelerating very rapidly". The report states that Longdon is accused of swinging at Kolbeck and attempting to push him off the vehicle. Kolbeck was unharmed in the incident and is schedule to testify in court. Longdon first appeared in court July 30 and was released on $40,000 bond. He violated his bond Aug. 24 and was arrested. He was bound over for arraignment and trial during a contested preliminary hearing Nov. 26 and subsequently plead not guilty to all of the charges. Longdon is also charged with transporting an open container, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, and an additional charge of battery on a law enforcement officer.
