  • Goldbugs survive upset bid by Minneola

  • Fowler now 9-0 going into today's SPIAA league seedings

  • FOWLER — The Fowler Goldbugs had their toughest test of the year beating the Minneola Wildcats 52-45 to remain unbeaten after nine games with the Southern Plains-Iroquois Activities Association victory.
    The game was tied at 35-35 going into the final quarter before the Goldbugs rattled off 17 points in the final stanza to remain unbeaten and will probably grab the No. 1 seed in the league tournament pairing released this afternoon.
    Tem Shetley scored 13 points to lead the Goldbugs, while Jett Reese added 12 in the victory.
    Gary Stewart scored 12 points to lead Minneola (6-3) while Trale Yost and Brandy Shumate scored 10 points apiece for the Wildcats. It was Minneola's second loss to the Goldbugs this season.
    Kiowa County 66, Ingalls 34
    INGALLS — The Mavericks didn't allow a point in the first quarter and led 32-15 by halftime in the SPIAA League victory over the Bulldogs.
    Rustin Ardery scored 21 points to lead Kiowa County (7-4), while Corbin VandenHoek and Damien Odle added 12 apiece and Trever Powell scored 10 in the victory. Nathan Hale led Ingalls (2-6) with 18 points.
    Spearville 71, Deerfield 63
    SPEARVILLE — The Royal Lancers made seven of their nine shots in the first quarter and finished shooting 27-of-48 from the field to record the victory over the Spartans.
    Spearville (3-7) increased the lead to 37-26 by halftime and continue to have the hot hand in the second half (12-of-21).
    Nathan Stein led Spearville with 19 points, while Kaden Stein added 15 and Reegan Wright 12 in the victory. Alex Mata scored 19 points to lead Deerfield (3-7)with brother Mike added 13 and Jordan Calderon 11 in the loss.

    INGALLS — The Ingalls Lady Bulldogs overcame a halftime deficit to record a victory over the Kiowa County Mavericks in Southern Plains-Iroquois Activities Association action.
    The Lady Bulldogs (9-0) allowed only three baskets and 10 points after intermission to remain unbeaten on the season in their final game before the seedings of next week's tournament at United Wireless Arena. Ingalls will probably be the top seed as the only unbeaten squad in the league.
    Rebecca Wyatt scored 10 of her 19 points in the second half, while Bulma Galaviz scored six more after intermission to help the Lady Bulldogs' cause.
    Riann Heft and Halie Headrick scored eight points apiece to lead Kiowa County (5-6).

    KISMET — Morgan Ediger scored 13, Ashtynn Burns 12 and Ellen Waters 8 as the Lady Bluejays outscored the Lady Indians 47-20 in the first half of their Hi-Plains League quarterfinal contest at Southwestern Heights.
    Ediger finished the game with 22 points (including three 3-pointers) for Cimarron (10-0), while Burns added 20 and Waters 16 in the victory. Rebecca Dupree also scored in double figures for the Lady Bluejays with 11.
    Valerie Caro led Satanta (3-7) with nine points.
    Cimarron plays Elkhart in a Thursday night semifinal at 7:30 p.m. at Garden City Community College.

    Rachel Slattery scored 12 points to lead Spearville in the win, while Katie Rabe and Lindsey Heskamp added 11 for the Lady Lancers (7-3).
