Marshall Lane Hefner, 90, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge. He was born Aug. 16, 1922 at Hartville, Mo. the son of Marshall F. and Ruby Olive (Krause) Hefner.
Hefner served in the U.S. Army in the 163rd Infantry during W.W. II from 1941 - 1945. He married Dorothy M. Fowler on November 11, 1945. He worked for the Santa Fe railroad in LaJunta, Colo. then moved to Dodge City and worked at Skaggs Motor Company as a parts man. Hefner then moved to Denver in 1951to work for Hoover Motor Company until his retirement. Dorothy preceded him in death in April of 1978 and in 1980 he married Marjorie Leicht at which time they moved to Dodge City. She preceded him in death in January of 2012. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, clock building, yard work, and traveling.
He was a member of Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. of Dodge City.
Hefner is survived by one son, Wes Hefner and wife Cheryle of Ford; three step-children, Gerald Leicht, Allen Leicht and Sharon Taylor; one sister, Ruby Johnson of Branson, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Wes Hefner, Jr, Rod Hefner, Scott Hefner, Barbie Hefner, Jeff Shaw, Connie Dunham, and Kelly Shaw; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at Ford Cemetery in Ford with Mr. Ryan Ausmus presiding. Military rites will conducted by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. Public visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie or Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. in care of the funeral home.
