The Depot Theater Company will hold auditions for their upcoming production of "Totally Red," a play by Dinah Toups with music by Barbara Walker.
The Destination Center Stage production will feature a large cast of young men and young women from the company's student division.
"Totally Red" tells the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but uses a variety of theatrical styles such as melodrama, Elizabethan, ’80s hip-hop slang and avant-garde.
The production will be directed by Connie Penick.
"I chose this script because it will be a good experience for our young actors," Penick said in a recent phone interview.
"It will be interesting for them to see that you can use many different genres or styles to tell even the simplest, most well-known story."
Auditions for "Totally Red" are scheduled for 2 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Homestead Theater.
There are roles for a large cast of actors from 4th through 10th grade.
"We especially need the 7th, 8th and 9th graders to show up," Penick said.
Rehearsals for the production begin the week of Feb. 11 and will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
The production is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 8 and 9 in the Homestead Theater.
The Depot Theater Company is currently celebrating its 30th season of productions and the Destination Center Stage student division shares a long history of creative productions.
