The tables and chairs are in place. The grill is ready to go. And there are four syrup pitchers at every table.
The Dodge City IHOP Restaurant is ready for a soft opening today.
The new dining establishment, which has been under construction since June, will open at 9 a.m. today and remain open until 11 p.m. Then, beginning Wednesday, they'll be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily for about two weeks.
"Then we'll go 24/7," said Mike Issa, director of operations for the franchise, which also operates IHOPs in Kansas City, Hays, Garden City and two locations in Hays.
Local diners have been anxious to order pancakes at the new location and today they'll find a staff ready to oblige.
"We've been training — we have hired about 150 people," Issa said.
"We're looking for a big weekend," said Alex Issa, the general manager of the Dodge City location.
Along with Mo Touffaha, franchisee of record for the group, the men took a break to visit with the Globe late Monday afternoon.
Outside, workers were putting the finishing touches on concrete in the parking lot. Others were finishing sidewalks or moving dirt in the landscape sections beyond the parking areas.
"There is still some concrete and landscape to be done, but our customers will be able to get into the building easily," Mike said.
The new IHOP is located on the northeast corner of Wyatt Earp Blvd. and Fourteenth Avenue.
