GARDEN CITY -- Dodge City's Dane Edwards only has two losses on the season at the 138-pound division, but was able to gain revenge on one of those setbacks Tuesday night in a 3-1 decision over Garden City's A.J. Hurtado in a Western Athletic Conference dual at the New Garden.
Dodge City lost the dual to the Buffaloes 53-12 and are now 0-3 in WAC duals and 7-4 overall.
The two wrestlers are the top two ranked in Class 6A in their weight class with Hurtado overtaking Edwards for the top spot after the Buffalo grappler recorded a win between the two earlier in the month at the Newton Tournament of Champion semifinals.
Edwards recorded a takedown in the second period, but Hurtado was able to escape his grasp to make the score 2-1. Edwards then called to be in the down position for the third period and recorded an escape to finish the win.
The decision Edwards is now 16-2 on the season, while Hurtado is now 22-6 going into this weekend's Rocky Welton Tournament, also at the New Garden.
Jaden McRoberts (113) and Clay Weil (120) won their matches by decisions for the Red Demons.
