  • Who's filed for the April Election?

  • The filing deadline for the April 2 general election passed Tuesday without producing enough candidates for a primary election. A handful of local races will be contested, however.
    Positions are available on several area school boards, small cities and town councils, hospital boards and the Dodge City Community College Board.

  • The filing deadline for the April 2 general election passed Tuesday without producing enough candidates for a primary election. A handful of local races will be contested, however.
    Positions are available on several area school boards, small cities and town councils, hospital boards and the Dodge City Community College Board.
    In Bucklin, three positions need to be filled on the school board, each of which is a four-year term. The people who have filed are; Matt Imel, Shane Jones, S. Troy Snook and Rebecca Barnhardt.
    In Dodge City, four USD 443 positions are up for grabs, again each for four-year terms. The candidates are; Mario Sanchez, Barbara Lundin, Tammy West, Wendy Sanchez, Lisa Killion and Brian Winter.
    In Spearville, three school board positions are open, each for a four-year term. They are divided into three  districts. In District 1, position 4, the candidates are; Michael HUbbell and Kevin Rueb. In District 2, position 5, the candidate is Myron Ricke. And in District 3, position 6, the candidate is Kyle Kistler.
    For the Dodge City Community College Board of Trustees, three positions are open, each of which is a four-year term. The candidates who have filed are; Merrill Conant, Morris Reeves and Don Webb.
    On the Bucklin hospital board, which has two positions available, the only candidate who has filed is Lawrence Hall Sr.
    The Bucklin City Council has three four-year terms open. The candidates who have filed are; Glenna Day, Cody Warden, Kirk Esplund and Claton Kendall Selland.
    The Ford City Council has an opening for mayor, and two council seats. No one filed for mayor. The candidates who filed for the council seats are; Andy Thompson, Betty Shearon and Kathleen Duffield.
    The Spearville City Council has an opening for one mayor, a two-year term and three council seats, four-year terms. The candidate for mayor is Ron Tematt. The candidates for council seats are; Johnny Dunlap, Gayla Kirmer and Michael Schiette.
    The deadline to register to vote in the April 2 election is March 13. Voter registration forms are available at the Ford County Government Center, on the fourth floor.
    According to the County Clerk, Sharon Seibel, in the last election there were 8,173 ballots counted. Around 15,000 registered voters live in Ford County.
