  • The Ford County Commission voted Tuesday to end the county's child care licensing program effective next month. The regular Monday meeting was moved to Tuesday this week because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
The child care position could not be filled, so the commissioners chose to end the program. A letter was written to the KDHE explaining why the program was terminated and commissioners approved it.
Natalie Randall, the new Ford County Attorney came before the commission to announce that her office had hired a new Domestic Violence prosecutor in compliance with a grant the county attorney's office received last year. The new prosecutor is Gary Foiles. Foiles was hired because of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant the county received again for the 2013 year. The VAWA grant must be applied for each year and this is the second year the Ford County Attorney's office has received it. Foiles will work with cases that involve domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and other violent acts.
Tiffanie Askew, the victim/witness coordinator stressed that in spite of the name of the act, these crimes can be committed against men too, and Foiles will represent both men and women who have been victims of these crimes.
    The commissioners also:
-Divided up the committee assignments that were previously held by Terry Williams among the three commissioners.
-Gave Main Street Dodge City $2,500 of their allocated funds for the year, and heard a presentation about some upcoming projects the organization is working on.
The next County Commission meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4. All upcoming meetings will now be held at this time. Work sessions have been moved to 5:30 p.m.
