  • Earlier this week, we asked our Facebook fans to answer the following question: "What is your favorite movie, and why do you like it so much?" We told them their responses may be edited for content and clarity and used in an upcoming article in the Globe. Here are the responses we've received.
Michelle Ross: "'Grease'... the music and the actors."
Beverly Louthan: "'Armageddon'. Reminds us of how short life can be. Great acting."
A Better Lunch: "'It's a Wonderful Life'... Jimmy Stewart! A classic that has a message to each and every one of us every day of our lives... we are each and everyone important!"
Cara Perkins-Webb: "'8 Seconds'.. Another reminder of how fast your dreams and life itself can come to an end. Great tear-jerking country movie!"
Shawna Culver: "'Seabiscuit'...Triumph in spite of tragedy and overwhelming odds...a testament to the human and animal spirit!"
Kyle Jeffrey Hager: "Impossible to pick one, so... for a classic film my favorite is 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' because Jimmy Stewart's performance is amazing and the story is so relevant to today. For a newer movie, my favorite is 'Fandango' because it's the college road trip I wish I had taken."
Shani Davidson Floyd: "'Pete's Dragon'... it's an oldie but a goodie to share with all of our granddaughters!"
Dawn Thompson Kazar: "'Shawshank Redemption'.. how can you not like that movie? The story is great.. ending is great.. Morgan Freeman is great. I visited the Mansfield Reformatory, where it was filmed, and that was great too!"
Natasha Joaquin: "I have loved 'The Wizard of Oz' since I was little... I still love watching all the magic come alive and see how all the different people become friends to help get through all the different obstacles. Such a great movie..."
Rebeca Chavez: "'The Color Purple'. The reason I like this movie is because it is so sad at the beginning and then at the end it has a wonderful ending. I cry every time I see it."
Veronica Gutierrez: "My favorite movie is 'Honey' because I like how Jessica Alba helps to get kids off the streets."
Eric Swanson: "'Chinatown'. I love this movie because it blends all the ingredients of classic film noir with a wicked sense of humor. The ending lifts the movie out of the relm of crime flicks and puts it in the relm of tragedy."
Rebecca Randall Gary: "'The Notebook'! I love love love the love story it tells. The connection they had was so sweet and then ending was sad but so sweet!"
Chanda Moore Hudson: "'Casablanca'! Not only because my heart belongs to the black and white films, but because the guy didn't end up with the girl."
Page 2 of 2 - Anna Marie: "'Inception'. Not only did it blow my mind (especially the ending) but it had a nice little bit of everything for the movie-goers: romance, mystery, action, suspense... I get chills up my spine just thinking about it! It's one of those movies you could watch a hundred times, and take something different out of it each time. Plus, Leonardo isn't bad to look at, if you know what I mean. :)"
Curtis Ellis: "'Second Hand Lions' is my favorite. The story of two old brothers who had lived an adventure filled life, and amassed a fortune , are now wasting away on a ranch in Texas. Then a great nephew shows up, abandoned by his mother. They find a new purpose."
