Olathe South showed from the start why they are the second ranked team in the KBCA 6A girls' rankings, as they dominated Dodge City from the opening tip off to the final buzzer in a 67-35 blowout.
The Falcons opened up with a 10-0 run on the Lady Demons, extending it to 14-3 at one point before Dodge City really knew what hit them.
The Red Demons regained their composure a little in the second quarter, as Ciera Lampe was able to connect on a pair of three pointers to keep Dodge City competitive. The athleticism of Olathe South was still too much, as they outscored the Lady Demons in the frame 12-10, allowing Olathe South a 30-15 lead heading into halftime.
Kylee Kopatich led all scorers with 11 in the half for the Falcons, who shot 12-of-25 from the field in the half.
Olathe South ripped off a 7-0 run to open up the second half, though Dodge City was game, answering with a 9-2 run of their own to close out the third quarter.
That only seemed to inspire the Falcons in the fourth quarter, however, as they responded with a 15-2 run in the final frame to put the game well outside the Lady Demons' hands.
Kopatich led four Falcons in double-digits with 17 on 6-of-14 shooting. Samantha Samskey had 13 and Jordan Morton added 12, while Riley White had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Lampe led Dodge City with 14 points. Katrina Roenfeldt was close to double digits with nine points.
Olathe South moves into the semifinals tonight at 7:30 p.m. against McPherson, in what will be a battle between the tournament's No. 2 and 3 seeds. Dodge City will face Hays in the consolation semifinals at 4:30 p.m.
