The Dodge City Red Demons wrestling team picked up a 65-12 dual victory Thursday night over Bear Creek (Colo.) at the New Garden.

The match was in preparation for the Rocky Welton Invitational to be at the same venue starting today and the Red Demons will go in with a lot of momentum.

“Overall, I think we came out ready to go and wrestled very aggressive,” said DCHS head coach Lars Lueders. “I liked what we saw and I think it will give us a lot of confidence.”

Dane Edwards pinned his opponent in 23 seconds for his 100th varsity victory, one of 12 matches won by the Red Demons in the dual.

Other Red Demons who won by pin include Howard Johnson (106, 2:46), Jaden McRoberts (113, 54 seconds), Dakota Loeschen (132, 1:37), Santiago Garcia (152, 5:16), James Meehan (160, 5:18), Corey Keller (170, 3:00), David Mendez (182, 5:25).

Clay Weil won his match at 120 pounds by a 14-0 major decision; Jhett Ostrom won by a 4-2 decision at 145; Christian Torres (285) won by a 6-1 decision, and Corky Phillips won by forfeit at 195.
