  • The Ingalls Lady Bulldogs had their toughest test of the season in their Southern Plains-Iroquois Activities Association battle against the Spearville Lady Lancers, but were able to remain unbeaten on the season with a 40-35 victory at United Wireless Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs used their defensive aggression to stop Spearville's offense with 15 steals in the contest. The Lady Lancers made only four field goals after intermission and had a seven-minute drought in the fourth quarter that ended at the buzzer with a three-pointer.
Rebecca Wyatt led the top-seeded Lady Bulldogs (12-0) with 19 points. She scored six in the second quarter and eight more in the third to help keep Ingalls ahead throughout the second half. Kaisha Batman added nine while Deisy Estrada and Tara Whipple scored six apiece.
Rachel Slattery scored all nine of her points in the first half to keep Spearville (8-4) with a point going into intermission. Katie Rabe added eight in the loss.
Ingalls scored six of the first eight points of the opening quarter, but the Lady Lancers scored 12 of the final 14 to build a four-point lead by the end of the stanza.
The Lady Bulldogs went on an eight-point run to regain the lead and held a 22-21 margin going into halftime.
The third quarter saw both teams clamp down on defense and slowing down the other squad's offense. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Lancers by two to increase their lead to 30-27 going into the final quarter.
Ingalls only hit one basket in the final stanza, but did get to the line by continuing to attack the goal and getting a number of offensive rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs were 7-of-8 from the foul line to seal the victory extending the lead to eight before Spearville's three-pointer at the buzzer. Before the final quarter, Ingalls had made only one of nine free throws.
Ingalls will play Bucklin for the girls tournament championship at 6 p.m. Spearville will face Ashland in the third place game scheduled for 2 p.m.
