Attention animal lovers — the Ford County Humane Society's annual fundraiser, aptly titled the Fur Ball, is sure to be the cat's pajamas.
The third annual Fur Ball will take place from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at Casey's Cowtown in Dodge City.
The Fur Ball is the main fundraiser for the Humane Society and according to Shari Perkins, the event just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Perkins has been involved in the Ford County Humane Society since its inception. The Humane Society doesn't receive funding from the county or other agencies, so they depend on donations and fundraisers.
"All of the funds will go to our spay and neuter program and also toward the operating expenses for the building," Perkins said.
The organization offers low-cost spay and neuter clinics two times a year with an average of 250 pets per event treated, according to their website.
As in past years, a local rock and roll band called Jury will perform at the Fur Ball. There will also be a silent auction and door prizes. Perkins said this year's prizes include Rockies tickets, gift certificates to local restaurants and hair and nail salons, and even dog food. Rocking M Radio has also donated tickets to a Kid Rock concert in Wichita.
And even though it's called the Fur "Ball," Perkins said dress for the event is casual.
"We just want to encourage people to come out and dance to some rock and roll," she said.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or ahead of time by calling Perkins at (620) 227-3480. For more information, or to become a volunteer for the Ford County Humane Society call (620) 225-1481.
