What was originally thought to have been a fight between two girls last Monday at Dodge City High School is now being investigated as an assault. Earlier this week Chief of Police Craig Mellecker said that after seeing a video taken by witnesses of the incident, he would classify the event as more of an alleged attack. The video Mellecker spoke of has been passed around Facebook; it is unknown if the video is still circulating at this time. The attack reportedly took place in a bathroom and was planned ahead on Facebook. Mellecker said one suspect has been taken into custody but could not comment further. He said more than one charge has been filed. Mellecker said the police are working to identify witnesses and complete interviews. Mellecker also said the school was cooperating and assisting with the investigation. Yvonda Acker, public information supervisor for USD 443, said the district cannot comment on the incident because anything involving a student is covered under Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
