  • The County Commission met at 6 p.m. Monday evening for their first meeting of the month. Several items were on the agenda.
Commissioners approved a $1,000 contribution to the Dodge City Night event which is held each year in Topeka. A local resident requested to temporarily set up a disk-golf course at the Ford County Lake for a tournament that will be held Feb. 23. All money raised at the tournament will be donated to charity. Sheriff Dean Bush requested funds for a K9 replacement, and additional funds to travel out of state and pick up the dog, and for some training. It will be a patrol/drug dog.
"We had a K9 unit several years ago," Sharon Seibel said in a phone interview on Tuesday, "and the commission approved the request to reactivate the program."
The commission also accepted the resignation of Sheriff Bush from the Area Mental Health Board, and appointed Erica Deandra-Sotero as his replacement.
    In other business, the commission:
-approved an application from the health department to apply to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for several grants from the state. The total amount of the grant is $167,465.
-approved bids from A.V. Energy for fuel for the counties vehicles.
-approved a change order for $36,225 for work that is being done at the landfill.
The next County Commission meeting will be held Feb. 18.
