  • Wildcats hold off challenge from Longhorns

  • Fowler and Meade boys; Cimarron and Ingalls girls remain unbeaten on the season

  • JETMORE — The Hodgeman County Longhorns' fourth quarter rally fell two points short in their Southern Plains-Iroquois Activities Association 63-61 loss to the visiting Minneola Wildcats.
    Both teams shot the ball well in the game: Minneola (8-7) was 22-of-48 (45.8 percent), including hitting five of their 10 3-point attempts in the win. Hodgeman County (7-9) was 23-of-52 (44.2 percent) and 10-of-21 from 3-point range.
    Matt McClaren scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Wildcats, while Gary Stewart and J. Britt added 11 apiece in the win. Minneola outscored Hodgeman County 32-18 on points in the paint.
    Jared Borger scored 18 points, four assists and three steals to lead Hodgeman County, while Austin Pfannenstiel aded 17 and William Fierro 10 in the loss.

    FOWLER — The Goldbugs improved to 16-0 on the season by beating the Rebels in their first meeting since the two battled for the SPIAA tournament title less than two weeks ago.
    Fowler outscored South Gray 22-10 after the first quarter and maintained enough of a distance to thwart any serious comeback by the Rebels (13-3).
    Four players scored in double figures for Fowler: Jett Reese with 17, Joel Milford 14, Ty Clark 12 and Taylin Bird 10. South Central also had four players score in double figures in the contest: Carson Skidmore 13, Gaige Foskuhl 12, Tate Skinner 11 and Trenton Holloway 10.

    GREENSBURG — The Bluejays avenged their loss in the third place game of the SPIAA tournament last month, scoring 18 points in the second quarter and increasing their lead in the second half for the win over the Mavericks.
    Grant Meininger scored 20 points to lead the Bluejays (8-9) while Corey McCann added 14 (four 3-pointers) and Bily Day 12 in the victory.
    Trever Powell scored 14 points and Rustin Ardery added 12 for the Mavericks (11-6) in the loss.

    MEADE — The Bufffaloes outscored the Red Aces 25-2 in the opening quarter and increased the lead to 40-10 by halftime as the host-Buffaloes improved to 14-0 on the season.
    Five players scored in double figures for the Buffaloes: Trevin Wiens with 16, Randy Friesen and Morgan Davis with 11 apiece and Jett Little and Ethan Reichmann with 10 apiece.
    Anthony Ledesma and Trevon Herrera scored eight points apiece to lead Bucklin (1-13).

    Adolfo Ibarra scored 12 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter to lead Macksville (11-4), while Jordan Welch scored seven of his 15, Tanner Tranbarger scored seven of his 14 and Clayton Wood scored eight of his 12 in the final quarter.
    Nathan Frame scored 13 of his team-high 16 points in the first half to lead Kinsley (8-8).

    KINSLEY — The Lady Coyotes didn't allow a field goal in the fourth quarter and outscored the Lady Mustangs 16-4 in the stanza to record the Central Prairie League victory.
    Margarita Holguin scored six of her 25 points in the final quarter to lead Kinsley (6-10). Holguin also had nine points in the opening quarter of the game. Amber Espinosa also scored in double figures for the Lady Coyotes with 10 points.
    Tara Bunker scored 14 points to lead Macksville (3-12), while Mindy Wood added 10 for the Lady Mustangs. Bunker scored 12 and Wood nine in the first half as Macksville built a 31-21 lead at intermission.
