The Dodge City Lady Demons allowed only eight field goals in their Saturday night road contest against Wichita Collegiate and got stronger as the game progressed on the way to a 55-26 victory over the Lady Spartans.
The Lady Demons' defense forced 26 Collegiate turnovers for 25 Dodge City points. Ciera Lampe led Dodge City (5-11) with 12 points and six rebounds, while Alexis Sanchez and Katrina Roenfeldt scored nine points apiece. Sanchez also had seven assists, six rebounds and three steals.
Keli Dunn scored seven points to lead Collegiate (4-12).
The Lady Demons never trailed in the game. Dodge City led by four after the opening quarter and extended the lead to 27-16 by intermission. Sanchez scored six points, while Lampe, Breckyne Pike and Jessie Harshberger added five for the Lady Demons.
Dodge City continued to be aggressive on defense and its transition game in the second half. The Lady Demons made nine of their 15 field goals and 9-of-12 from the free throw line to pull away. Collegiate was only 3-of-14 from the field (one field goal in the final stanza) and scored only 10 points after intermission.
The Lady Demons next game will be at home against Garden City in a Western Athletic Conference showdown at the DCHS Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
