  • John Rebein of Dodge City was announced as having longest tail feather turned in to Dodge City locations for this year's “Longest Tail Feather Contest.” The contest included only the recent pheasant hunting season which ended Jan, 31. The feather Rebein entered measured 25 1/2 inches and was also entered into a contest with six other southwest Kansas counties (Grant, Kearney, Morton, Seward, Edwards, and Stevens counties). When entered into the seven county contest, Rebein’s feather finished in 1st place overall. Prizes for the contest consisted of a Mossberg 500 shotgun, purchased locally for the Ford County winner. Each county’s sponsor contributed money to a prize fund for the overall winners. The money is then converted to local Chamber Bucks from the winning community. In total, Rebein earned $1000 in Chamber Bucks for his first place win. The contest was sponsored by the Dodge City Visitors Center. Twenty-eight entries were received at six locations around Dodge City.
