Ford County Fire/EMS were dispatched to a fire about a mile northeast of town Monday morning.
Jay Taylor, chief of Ford County Fire/EMS, said the fire was reported at 11:30 a.m. and began when a resident used a cutting torch to cut an empty fuel storage tank up for pieces. But apparently, the tank was not empty.
Multiple callers reported seeing thick black smoke near the Dodge City Airport.
Taylor said there were no injuries and the incident took place on private property.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire pretty quickly, according to Taylor.
