Harold L. Schauvliege, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born July 12, 1923 at Jetmore, the son of C.F. and Louise Stramel Schauvliege. He was a longtime farmer and stockman in Hodgeman County and after retirement, moved to Dodge City. He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City, and American Legion Post 290, Jetmore. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII. On March 31, 1948, he married Lorraine Fox at St. Nicholas Church in Kinsley. Survivors include his wife, Dodge City; two daughters, Marceile Hayes and husband Mike, Derby, and Lynette Dansel and husband Richard, Jetmore; daughter-in-law, Connie Schauvliege, Dodge City; a brother, Lawrence and wife Letha, Harper, Kan.; two sisters, Mildred Hamby and Camilla Stegman both of Wichita; seven grandchildren, Brad Hayes and wife Addie, Jerad Hayes and wife Cheryl, Ryan Dansel and wife Jennifer, Traci Whorton and husband Gunner, Andrea Caracciolo and husband Esteban, Cody Schauvliege and Tanner Schauvliege; a step-granddaughter, Jamie Remigio and husband Michael, Dodge City; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Les; a brother, Clifford; and a sister, Jeanette Abbott. Rosary will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jetmore. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church with Fr. Maurice Cummings presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore, with military rites.
