A man from Dodge was injured in a crash Wednesday evening west of town.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Andres Vega was driving eastbound on Highway 50 when he lost control of his vehicle and spun in front of an oncoming semi-truck. A trailer the truck was pulling then fell on top of Vega's vehicle.
Vega was taken to Western Plains Medical Complex following the accident. His condition was unavailable at press time.
The driver of the semi, 42-year-old Van E. Ward II of Independence, Kan. was not injured in the crash.
Heavy bands of snowfall as well as icy road conditions likely contributed to the accident, as was the case across much of the state.
The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to 14 injury accidents Wednesday in counties on both ends of the state. In Sedgwick County alone, six injury accidents occurred.
Officers from the Dodge City Police Department were dispatched to calls regarding stranded motorists and accidents Wednesday and Thursday as well. Chief of Police Craig Mellecker released a statement urging residents to stay home and off of the roads.
