The Dodge City Conquistadors made sure to spoil the rival Garden City Broncbusters' final home game of the season by clamping down on defense in a 64-45 victory in Jayhawk West action at Perryman Arena.
Garden City didn't reach the double digit scoring mark until there was less than four minutes left to go in the first half in leading 29-19 at halftime. The Conqs opened up the second half by making eight of their first 11 shots to keep in front of the Busters, who also shot the ball well at the start of the second half to cut the margin to 41-37 with less than 12 minutes left in regulation. Dodge City then went on a nine-point run to seal the victory.
Dodge City (14-15, 6-9) had lost five of their last six games going into Saturday night, but shot lights out in their second win over the Busters this season. The Conqs were 24-of-46 from the field (8-of-15 from 3-point range).
Vic Adams scored 15 points and had five assists to lead the Conqs, while Jacoby Green hit all three of his 3-point attempts and finished with 13 points on the night. Dodge City outrebounded Garden City 34-23 with Tate grabbing six boards to go with his nine points.
Three players scored in double figures for the Busters (11-18, 3-12): Chris Hall 12, Frank Agholor 11 and Reuben King 10.
The Conqs will play at home Wednesday night against Butler and then will travel to either Independence or Allen County for their first round game of the regional tournament Saturday night.
