  • Dodge City Community College and Area Technical Center will have a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lewis Technology Center at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the Manufacturing Technology Building located on the west side of the DCCC campus. Due to tremendous demand for welding and manufacturing training in southwest Kansas, DCCC has outgrown its current space in the Manufacturing Technology Building. The conversion of the building into the Lewis Technology Center will add much needed classroom, office and work spaces to meet the demand of DCCC students. A total of $448,750 in funding for the project came from the sale of 50 percent tax credits awarded to DCCC. “The 50 percent tax credits were awarded to us through a highly competitive grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce,” said Roger Proffitt, DCCC Foundation Director. “This money will be used to expand our Tech Center and build additional classrooms for our welding program. The demand for trained welders in southwest Kansas continues to grow and this expansion will allow us to double the number of students we are presently teaching.” “We've had some very generous individuals and businesses donate money to the Dodge City Community College Foundation for this project and we will recognize their generosity at the Tuesday ground breaking, “said Dr. Don Woodburn, DCCC President. “One major donor, Mr. Jim Lewis, we're very happy to recognize by naming this new building the Lewis Technology Center. This is the first building on our campus that will be named for the generosity of a donor.”
