  • Lady Conqs fall by 21 to Butler

  • The Dodge City Lady Conquistadors played a very spirited first half against Butler in their final home game of the regular season at United Wireless Arena, but turnovers doomed the host squad again in a 82-61 loss in Jayhawk West action.
    The Lady Conqs committed 31 turnovers which the Lady Grizzlies used for 31 points in the contest. Butler also had 17 offensive rebounds for another 16 points in the victory. Butler scored 49 second-half points to blow open the contest.
    Jamillah Bonner scored 18 of her 21 points after intermission to lead the Lady Grizzlies (24-6, 12-4), while Samantha Satterlee added 17¸ Ashley Ivy had a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Tysia Manual also scored in double figures for Butler with 14 points.
    Kelli Tolar led Dodge City (9-21, 3-13) with 13 points Brenna Briggs and Jameeshia Armstrong scored 11 points apiece and Rodeshia Mouton scored 10 for the Lady Conqs. Kesha Buckner had nine points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
    The Lady Conqs used the three-point shot for its offense in the first 10 minutes of the game. Dodge City made five 3-pointers and four free throws on the way to a 22-19 lead by the media timeout. Butler was able to use an eight-point run to regain the lead. The Lady Grizzlies led 33-32 at intermission.
    Tolar scored the first nine points for the Lady Conqs with Rodesha Mouton adding six from off the bench and Brenna Briggs and Jameesha Armstrong adding five apiece. Dodge City shot 11-of-22 from the fieldand 5-of-9 from 3-point range.
    Ivy scored 11 points to lead Butler, which shot 12-of-33 from the field, but were 9-of-13 at the line to build the lead.
    Butler came out the second half on fire, scoring seven of the first 10 points after intermission and later increased the lead to 48-40 five minutes into the second half. The Lady Grizzlies continued to force Dodge City turnovers and get offensive rebounds to continue to extend the lead to 69-49 with 4:30 remaining in regulation.
