  • S. Troy Snook for Bucklin USD 459 school board

  • Lifelong Dodge City/Ford County resident Troy Snook never considered running for school board, until talking with one of his friends.
"He told me he thought I'd bring a new set of eyes and a fresh perspective so I decided to run," Snook said. "And I also feel it's important that as parents we get involved with our children's education."

Snook has two sons, aged 8 and 13, in Bucklin schools.
What is it that's made Snook want to stay here his whole life?
"The warm feeling of a small town, and knowing that a helping hand is always around the corner," he said. "We really saw that with all the snow we just got. Everyone was looking out for their neighbors, and willing to help however they could."
Snook also said that he wants his children to grow up learning that if they see someone on the side of the road who needs help, to stop and help; something that most of America seems to have forgotten.
"I think it's important to teach our children those kinds of things," Snook said. "And that has to begin at home, but continue in schools."
Snook said he doesn't have any complaints about how the Bucklin schools are run now, and if he is elected he doesn't have any agenda to push, but he would like to see the agriculture program re-instated.
"I really have nothing against the current school board, and if I wasn't on the ballot I would have no problems voting for any of them. I think they're all capable people," Snook said. "But I think I can bring a fresh perspective if I'm elected."
