  • The Dodge City Conquistadors and Hutchinson Blue Dragons decided to play their Jayhawk Conference series in Oklahoma instead of a "middle of the week" showdown at Carey Park with mixed results the first day.
The Conquistadors scored two runs in the first, second and seventh to win the opener 6-4, with the Dragons coming back to win the nightcap 9-1.
Dodge City (7-5, 1-1) scored two runs in the top of the first as Haden Houska and Nick Comito scored on an error by shortstop Jordan Maynard; but Hutchinson came back in the bottom of the inning with a three-run home run by Dakota Shadoan.
The Conqs regained the lead in the top of the second on a RBI double by Connor Ross and a RBI single by Conner Koepp. Dodge City added their two runs in the seventh inning a two-run home run by Shay Lynes, his second on the season with the RBIs on the season campaign increasing his team lead to 14.
Hutchinson got one run in the bottom of the seventh on a home run by B.B. Kimbrel.
Ross Vance pitched a complete game and was the winning pitcher for Dodge City. Vance gave up four earned runs, five hits and one walk while striking out four. Lynes finished 3-of-4, while Koepp and Jerry Lacayo went 2-of-4.
Logan Landon was the losing pitcher for the Dragons.
The Dragons scored five runs in the bottom of the third. Shadoan opened up with a home run, Jacob Ek hit a double and later scored on a wild pitch, and Justin Harris hit a bases-loaded triple.
Dodge City scored its only run in the top of the fourth on a RBI groundout by Koepp; but Hutchinson answered with a RBI double by Kimbrel.
Hutchinson (2-2, 1-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to complete the scoring. Gabe Wurth hit a triple to open the inning and scored on a passed ball, then Kimbrel brought in a run on a sacrifice fly and Josh Kunzmann hit a RBI single.
The two teams battle again Monday afternoon at Oklahoma City University in another doubleheader.
