Henry Andrew Kurtz, Jr., 87, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at his daughter's home in Dodge City. He was born Nov. 26, 1925 at Buck Lake District, Iron County, Michigan to Henry Andrew, Sr. and Sophia (Stobie) Kurtz.
Henry married Lucille B. Bryant in 1950 at Chicago, Ill.
He was an iron ore miner in Michigan, the salt mine at Pawnee Rock, and electrician for Marlette Homes and Falcon Mobile Homes and custodian at Barton County Court House. Mr. Kurtz was a long-time Barton and Pawnee County resident.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving in New Guinea.
Henry was of Catholic faith. He was a member of the Jack Kreiger VFW Post, Larned.
Survivors include his wife Lucille B. Kurtz of the home; two sons, Steven Kurtz of Pawnee Rock, Kan., and Roger Kurtz of Larned; two daughters, Rita Kurtz of Larned, and Marla Stella Kurtz of Dodge City; one sister, Angeline Lukes of Ogema, Wisc.; seven grandchildren, Nathan Barker of Larned, Jason Kurtz of Larned, Brandon Kurtz of Larned, Derrick Kurtz of Grandview, Mo., Vincent Stella of Wright, and twins Natalie Stella and Nichole Stella of Ford; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at Bryant Funeral Home with Father Mark Cowell officiating. Interment will be at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood, with military rites by United States Navy Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 8 at Bryant Funeral Home.
