The Bucklin Lady Aces used its defensive effort to overcome a height disadvantage to record a 45-32 victory over the Thunder Ridge Lady Longhorns in a Class 1A-Division I state girls first round contest at White Auditorium.
The Lady Aces (18-5) gave up only five field goals in 19 attempts after intermission and forced 18 Thunder Ridge turnovers. Only four player scored for the Lady Longhorns in the contest.
Offensively, Bucklin outscored the Lady Longhorns 25-10 after halftime, including making five of its nine 3-point attempts in the second half.
Morgan Hood scored 14 of her 20 points in the second half. Hood was 6-of-12 from 3-point range for the game. Alexis Cossell and Janae Price added 11 points apiece in the victory.
Brittany Kirchoff scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Thunder Ridge (18-5).
The Lady Aces led 13-9 after the opening quarter, but Thunder Ridge was able to rebound and take a 22-20 lead at intermission.
Bucklin will face top-seed and unbeaten Olpe in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Lady Eagles (24-0) beat Hanover 56-40 in another first round contest.
