The Bucklin Lady Aces couldn’t overcome a poor shooting first half against the unbeaten Olpe Lady Eagles and fell 54-43 in a Class 1A-Division I state girls semifinal contest at White Auditorium.
The Lady Aces made only four of their 20 attempts and had to play catch up the rest of the game.
Bucklin trailed the Lady Eagles 16-4 after the opening quarter and Olpe 26-13 at intermission. Bucklin (18-6) shot 14-of-44 for the game (including 1-of-12 from 3-point range) as they were able to cut the margin down to 10 by the end of the third quarter.
Janae Price led Bucklin with 12 points and five assists, while Morgan Hood and Allyson Rudd added nine. Hood, who has been the Lady Aces’ primary scorer all season, was only 3-of-15 on the night; but she also led the team in rebounds with 10.
Elena Flott scored 23 points and grabbed 11 boards to lead the Lady Eagles (25-0) with Janae Haag didn’t miss a shot in adding 11 in the victory. Bucklin caused 11 Olpe turnovers in the game, but only one steal which kept them from getting into their transition game.
Bucklin will play St. John for third place in the tournament at noon today.
