  • The Dodge City Conquistadors were able to get the needed hits late in winning both games of their Friday doubleheader against the Pratt Beavers, but weren't as lucky Saturday as the Beavers were able to claim both games of Saturday's twinbill at Cavalier Field.
The Conquistadors claimed Friday's games by scores of 8-1 and 8-5; while Pratt won Saturday's games by scores of 13-9 and 7-2.
Ross Vance threw a complete game to earn the victory on the mound in Friday's opener. The West Virginia signee gave up five hits and one run while striking out nine in the contest.
The Conqs (11-8, 4-4) gave up a run in the first inning, then tied it in the bottom of the fourth. Dodge City added two runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to claim the win. Haden Houska went 2-for-3 with four runs batted (including a home run) in and Jarren Donato also went 2-for-3 and knocked in three runs for the Conqs (11-9, 4-4).
The nightcap saw the Conqs give up four runs to trail by three in the top of the third; before getting one back in the bottom of the frame and three more in the eighth and ninth innings to get the win.
Shay Lynes hit the game-winning three-run home run for the Conqs in the ninth. Lynes finished 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs (he also had a RBI triple in the eighth). Parker Jones was 3-for-5 with a RBI and Jerry Lacayo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the victory.
Reliever Sam Brunner was the winning pitcher for the Conqs.
Dodge City scored in every inning both the fourth, but they couldn't keep the Beavers from getting big innings. Pratt scored two in the first and seventh innings and four in the second and sixth in the 14-hit attack.
Scott Hillier was 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Dodge City attack, while Haden Houska and Conner Koepp were both 2-for-4 with a RBI (Houska also scored three runs). Jagger Harjo was the losing pitcher for the Conqs, giving up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.
Gaige Webster went 4-for-4 with a home run, four runs and five RBIs to lead Pratt, while Jared Lupo went 4-for-5 with four runs.
The two teams were even at 2-2 after two innings, but Pratt scored one in the fourth, and two more in the eighth and ninth innings to complete the sweep. Dodge City didn't help its cause with six errors in the game.
The Conqs outhit the Beavers 12-9, but left several runners stranded (24 runners stranded on Saturday). Donato was 3-for-5, while Parker Jones and Chris Ramsey knocked in runs for Dodge City.
Walker Rainwater was the losing pitcher for the Conqs, giving up six hits and three earned runs in seven innings of work. Rainwater also struck out five in the game.
