Two years ago when there was an opening on the Ford City Council, Kathleen Duffield stepped into the position. Now, she's officially running for the first time.
"I really enjoyed being on the council," Duffield said. "I learned a lot, and I'd like to learn more."
Duffield also said that there are some things that the council began working on in her first term that she would like to see through to their completion.
"We're working on getting a town tractor, and installing water meters," she said. And then of course there's the basic things like fees and budgets and whatnot."
Currently, Duffield doesn't work outside the home. She stays home and provides care for her husband who is a disabled veteran and grows organic foods and free-range chickens. She said she's not used to not having a full time job, so she's looking for ways to get involved and give back to her community. Being a part of the city council is one of those ways. She is also on the library board, the head of a Christian communication group and much more.
Growing up Duffield lived all over, including several states and even London for several years. But she and her husband decided to settle in Ford City because his family was close by.
"We've lived here five years now, and it's been great," Duffield said.
